St. Andrew and St. Mary the Virgin

The Parochial Church of Fletching - Registered Charity No. 1132321

At the heart of the local community

Our beautiful 12th century Church stands right at the centre of the rural village of Fletching, surrounded by the wonderful Sussex countryside.

The Church is a fine Grade I listed building and one of the largest in the area, with the original building completed in about 1230.

Although the Fletching village population is sparsely spread, there is a strong community spirit in which the Church plays a central role.

Worship with us ……

The parish falls within the Diocese of Chichester under the leadership
of our Bishop, Rt. Revd. Dr. Martin Warner. The congregation is committed to making the worship at our Church authentic and attractive. We aim to be the prayerful heart for our village.

The worship style at Fletching is best described as broadly Catholic. The 10am principal Sunday service is Common Worship Parish Communion when the St Thomas Mass setting is sung.

Currently, around forty-five adults attend each Sunday, drawn from a much larger pool of regular attenders. They are joined by a number of children attending with their parents. At major festivals the church fills up.

Care is taken to make services attractive to newcomers and visitors, whilst also nourishing the regular congregation. Special annual events include a Pets Service, services for the agricultural year, Remembrance Sunday and Christmas.

There is a Sunday School most Sundays, offering craft-based activities at the back of the Church. There is also a WhatsApp group to keep parents up-to-date on when Sunday School is meeting.

We are a busy parish with many clubs, societies and events regularly organised by our community. Throughout the year these are well attended by people from both inside and outside the parish.

Whether it’s ‘Cake and a Cuppa” in the Church, Intergenerational Opera for the school children, a talk on a topical subject, or a cricket match on the village recreational ground, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. See our Diary Dates page for all the latest news about what’s going on in the village.

Supporting the community

There are many activities aligned to the Church, with the majority of them taking part within it’s walls.

The dedicated ‘West End’ offers a flexible space for all to use whether for meetings, private functions or classes, and is available to hire. We are always open to new ideas about how we can continue to help support our community and raise its spirit.
