Concert at Fletching

With the object of raising money for the funds to install electric light in the Fletching Parish Church a variety concert was given in the Schools on Friday and Saturday evenings. The attendances were large.

A glee party introduced the programme, their items being Shepherd’s Dance add “The Fox.” The party consisted of
Miss Hilda Attenborough, Miss L. Avis, Miss Bott, Mrs. Dadswell,
Mrs. Fleetwood, Mrs. Hobbs, Mrs. E. Moore, Mrs. O. Rasell and
Miss Watson.

The Vicar (the Rev. R. W. Burns Cox) brought down the house when he appeared attired as an old lady, and he created such amusement with his patter and song “Betsy Waring,” that he had to give an encore. In the second part of the programme he was equally successful with the humorous song ” The Egg,” and in response to the applause sang “Fairings.”

There were some delightful violin solos by Miss Una Robinson, great favourites with the audience being the piece in which bagpipes were imitated and her

rendering of “Those endearing young charms.” Mrs. Winifred Brown sang in a charming manner “Mother Machree ” and “Love’s Garden of Roses,” her encore pieces being “ Only a Baby Small ” and
“My Prayer.”

There was a humorous sketch, “Miss Honey’s Treasure,” in which Miss Hilda Attenborough played the part of a servant and Miss Bott the mistress. Miss Claridge and Miss Avis were extremely good in a sketch entitled “ The Crystal Gazer.” Then there was “Aunt Maria’s Wireless,” a sketch which was very funny. Mrs. Davidson and
Mr. G. Fenner, jun., were very successful in this, while Mr. T. R. W.Bielby also did well. Miss Claridge made a capital maid-of-all work, while Miss Hilda Attenborough ably portrayed Aunt Maria and
Mrs. Fleetwood was one of her nieces.

The duties of pianist were ably undertaken by Mrs. Guy.
