~ Wealden District Council - Draft Local Plan consultation deadline
10th May 2024

Your views matter! You have until 5p.m. on Friday, 10th May to respond to the consultation on the Wealden Draft Local Plan. If you haven’t managed to attend the exhibitions you can still visit one virtually online via the Wealden.gov.uk website.

The Parish Council encourages everyone to look at the draft plan and respond to the consultation.

~ Annual Meeting of the Parish - Thursday, 9th May 2024, 7pm in the Village Hall

The Annual Meeting of the Parish is being held on Thursday, 9th May 2024 at 7pm in the Village Hall. This is where you can come and meet the Parish Councillors and hear about what has been happening over the last year as well as the Parish Council plans for the future. There will also be a discussion on the Draft Wealden Local Plan consultation.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

~ Grass and verge cutting

The Parish Council has taken the decision, to preserve the biodiversity of the areas, to reduce the number of cuts to the grass that it maintains. The cuts did not commence until April and there will be a reduction in the cuts towards the end of the season reducing the total number to 14. It was also agreed that Splaynes Green be cut every other week during the season reducing the number of cuts to 8.

The Parish Council also agreed, in respect of the grass cutting undertaken by ESCC, that the cuts at the start of the season would be visibility cuts only at junctions and inside bends with the second cut being the usual 1 metre swathe along the verge plus the visibility cuts.

~ Parish Council Meetings - change of time and venue

The Parish Council has changed its meetings to be on the second Monday of each month from May to avoid having to change the date due to bank holidays going forward.
It is also now going to meet in the newly refurbished Pavilion at the Recreation Ground at a later start time of 7.30pm.

The next ordinary meeting of the Parish Council is
Monday, 13th May 2024 at 7.30pm.

Neighbourhood Plan Update

The Steering Group tasked with preparing your Neighbourhood Plan for
Fletching Parish now has 7 members as follows:

Richard Hannay-Chair;
Damian Greenish; Leighton Snelgrove; Hugh Bullock; Mark Creamer; Sally De St Croix; Sarah Levein.

I am happy to report that Wealden District Council approved our application for the whole of the parish to be designated as a Neighbourhood Plan Area with commendable speed and so the first step to achieving your plan is complete.

During the summer we have been preparing for our first consultation which will be launched over the weekend of 21/22 October with a manned display as part of the Parish Historical Exhibition. We have identified the following topics which we will be seeking everyone’s views about:

Climate Change & Sustainability; Environment, Countryside & Landscape; Settlements; Development & Design; Economy, Infrastructure & Facilities; Transport and Access.

There will be a questionnaire that will seek your opinions on a whole raft of issues within these topics and on any other issues that you consider relate to the future of the Parish for the next 15 years. We will be working hard to ensure that as many parishioners as possible have the opportunity to express their views in whatever way best suits them but we will also be just as interested in the views of employers and employees who work in the parish but don’t live here.

Help in identifying and reaching all these groups would be gratefully received. All comments and suggestions will be welcome either directly to
Richard Hannay - richard.hannay.cllr@gmail.com or to our Parish Clerk - clerk@fletching-pc.org

FLETCHING HISTORY EXHIBITION

Hopefully, many of you were able to visit the
Fletching History Exhibition that was put on in the
Village Hall at the end of February.

The Parish Council would like to say a big ‘thank you’
to Geoffrey Isted for very kindly providing the amazing
amount of historical documents and photos, added
to the photos that the Parish Council had purchased.

Also, a thank you to the Fletching School PTA who
kept the visitors refreshed with lovely cake, tea and
coffee - they raised £204 towards their funds - thanks to everyone’s generosity.

We will be looking into holding further exhibitions in the future so watch this space!
